Sandgate is a special school for children and young people between the ages of three and nineteen years of age. Some children join the school at three years old, or just before. Most will join us at a later stage in their education, perhaps at reception class, or at the start of secondary education, after attending a primary school, or at any other point when parents and professionals feel that Sandgate would be the right place for their child.
All will have an Education, Health and Care Plan, and admissions are determined by the Local Authority. Older pupils, currently from year 10 to the end of our 6th form, are educated by our staff in specialist facilities, co-located at the Queen Katherine School in Kendal, and this is due to be extended to our year 8/9 pupils from Easter 2018.
